MONROE, N.C. — Police said Tuesday evening that a car used in the abduction of a 4-month-old Union County boy was located in Pageland, S.C.

The baby, Jaleen Xamir Howard, is the subject of an Amber Alert. Monroe police allege that Lonnie Cecil Buchanan Jr. abducted the boy from the parking lot of a doctor's office.

Police said an unidentified woman distracted Jaleen's mother while Buchanan, who is not the baby's father, snatched him.

Buchanan's car was found Tuesday evening but police said the suspect fled into the woods before officers could apprehend him.

Jaleen is black, about 2 feet tall and weighs about 15 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing only a diaper.

Police described Buchanan, 41, as a black man with black hair in dreadlocks and brown eyes. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans or khakis and no shirt.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Buchanan or Jaleen is asked to call the Monroe Police Department at 704-282-4700 or 704-282-4700.
