Authorities reopen Western Boulevard near prison following wreck

Authorities closed both eastbound lanes of Western Boulevard near Central Prison for about two hours Wednesday morning due to a wreck.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities closed both eastbound lanes of Western Boulevard near Central Prison for about two hours Wednesday morning due to a wreck. 

Raleigh police responded to the scene, near Hunt Drive, at about 6:30 a.m.

They determined that Irvin Hill Jr., 64, of 5013 Mocha Lane in Raleigh, stopped at the intersection then turned left off Western to Hunt Drive and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Matthew David McMorrow, 27, of 2630 Avent Ferry Road in Raleigh, was unable to avoid a collision.

Hill was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. 

The road reopened to traffic at about 8:40 a.m.
