Authorities: Man shot father, sister in Fremont home

Wayne County deputies arrested a man Wednesday who police say shot his father and sister inside a Fremont home, authorities said.

FREMONT, N.C. — A Fremont man was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he shot his father and sister inside a home on Jasmine Lane, authorities said. 

Rico Antonio Mitchell was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. He was taken to the Wayne County jail, where he was being held without bond.

Wayne County deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 134 Jasmine Lane shortly after 7:30 a.m. and found that Cquashanda Laquan Mitchell, 19, and Robert Earl Mitchell, 56, had been shot.

Cquashanda Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene, and Robert Mitchell was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown.

Rico Mitchell was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities didn't release any information about a motive for the shootings.
