KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A man wanted for a hit and run that injured a motorist Saturday night was apprehended after returning to the scene of the wreck.

A silver Chevrolet Impala struck a purple Chrysler PT Cruiser on U.S. Highway 64 near New Hope Church Road in Knightdale at around 10 p.m. The impact caused the Chrysler’s driver’s head to shatter their driver’s side window. The driver was transported to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries.

Moments later, the driver of the Chevrolet returned to the area of the accident, where paramedics, unaware of his involvement in the previous wreck, reported him as a careless and reckless driver, authorities said. Once troopers stopped him, they connected him with the accident, authorities said.

Clinton Tyrod Whitley, 23, of 11399 Claude Lewis Rd. in Middlesex, is charged with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, hit and run, reckless driving to endanger and two counts of resisting a public officer.

Whitley was placed in the Wake County jail Saturday night on a $7,000 bond.
