DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were investigating Monday after a pastor at a local church was shot to death Saturday morning on Dunbar Street.

Authorities said they located the body of Jamie Nathaniel Daniels, 33, in the 600 block of Dunbar Street. Daniels is listed as co-pastor on the Divine Grace Christian Church website.

"It's very disconcerting for someone to be found dead about 20 to 30 feet from your front door," resident Eric Harry said. "I don't know whether he was shot and left here, whether he was dumped, was it he just made it this far and fell out? I have no idea."

Harry said he heard nothing unusual Friday night or Saturday morning, but another neighbor said he heard what sounded like gunshots just after midnight Saturday.

Friends described Daniels as compassionate and fun-loving. If Daniels had any enemies, one said, you would have to question that person.

Police say they are following up on leads, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham police at 919-560-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
