DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious package found in the road Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Englewood Avenue.

Authorities said the Hazardous Devices Unit is investigating to determine the contents of the item.

According to officials, two gas cans were place separately in the road on Englewood Avenue. Liquid inside the gas cans was tested by the Bio-Chemical Emergency Response Team, authorities said.

Officials determined the liquid was motor oil for a chainsaw. They believe a tree trimming or landscaping company inadvertently left the oil behind—there was no label on the material, so investigators do not know who it belonged to.

There is no foul play suspected, and the scene has been cleared.
