Authorities investigate officer-involved shooting in Durham

Officers were dispatched to an overdose/suicide threats call at 4:37 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of East Geer Street. Officers confronted a man at the home, who was later shot by an officer, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday afternoon on East Geer Street.

Officers were dispatched to an overdose/suicide threats call at 4:37 p.m. in the 600 block of East Geer Street. Officers confronted a man at the home, who was later shot by an officer, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The incident is being investigated by the police department's Professional Standards Unit and the State Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
