DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities in Durham continue to seek answers after a 25-year-old's body was found by a passing motorist Sunday morning inside a car in the 1900 block of Lakewood Avenue.

Ricardo DeJesus Uribe Padilla, 25, died of a gunshot wound, police said.

They did not have any suspects or motive for Padilla's death, but a spokesman said Monday they were treating it as a homicide.

Martin Curtis said he has lived in the neighborhood for three years and has seen a lot of changes.

"There's been a lot of nice people moving in and a lot of houses that have gotten redone," he said. "The area in general is on the upswing."

Many residents are worried about how some recent crime will impact the progress the area has made.

Mark Koyanagi said the body was found just feet from his home.

"I noticed there was a pair of boots kind of coming out of the door and they were not moving," hs said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, ext. 29337 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
