DURHAM, N.C. — The Criminal Investigations Division of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with a home invasion case.
Investigators are searching for a man who they say entered a home near the intersection of N.C. Highway 98 and Valleydale Drive in Durham at about 10 p.m. Monday.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man saw a woman resident inside the home before he entered through an unlocked bedroom window.

The man attempted to sexually assault the woman, who is in her 70s, police said. She was able to fight him off, but he stole her purse and phone before fleeing the home, deputies said.

Investigators do not believe this was a random crime.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. R. Hooks at 919-560-0887 or Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
