— A Roanoke Rapids woman has been charged with beating and stabbing her husband after becoming enraged that he was smoking inside their home, authorities said Monday.

Sandy Johnson Garner, 28, of Thomas Jefferson Drive, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. She was being held without bond in the Halifax County jail.

Halifax County Sheriff's Office investigators said Dayshon Garner, 24, was beaten with a broomstick and stabbed with scissors after he smoked a cigarette in the bathroom of his home last week. Sandy Garner had a strict rule about not smoking in the house, investigators said.

Roanoke Rapids women have zero tolerance! If their men do not adhere to the rules, they get hit in the head with a caste iron frying pan, beat with a broom, and stabbed with scissors!

Folks, there are a LOT more men that are abused, physically, and especially mentally, than any of you would believe. WHY? Well, sometimes it is as simple as the female is larger than they are and they are afraid of her. Sometimes, it is that they have children and are concerned in leaving these precious children with this monster. Sometimes it is because they are afraid of the woman, because they now realize that she has mental issues and may have threatened to kill them, or someone they love (parents, siblings, nieces/nephews) and they do not have any where to turn. As you can see from the comments on here, people find it funny, not serious. She did not just slap the guy, she BEAT him and STABBED him. What a horrible life this man must lead.

"truly pathetic. 20 comments on this story and over half of them are cracking jokes because to you it's just fine (and funny) for a woman to attack a man. as coolwill 43 said, one heckuva double standard. if it were the other way around, every comment on here would be about 'this monster should be locked up for the rest of his life'..."

Oh, this one is easy... BECAUSE IT IS MOSTLY WOMEN POSTING ON HERE!!

I hope she goes to jail for life for this heinous act of domestic violence.

"Love makes the world go round" should be LOVE and TOLERANCE makes the world go round. The husband is expected to tolerate the wife and all her rules, hardliner wife fails to consider that someone she loves might slip up and dissappoint her, and in a great show of her own intolerance she gives no second chances but metes punishment. Cold soul of a woman.

It's a bad sign of the times when you can urinate & deficate in your own house, but not smoke without being murdered.

There must be something in the water in the Roanoke Rapids/Halifax area. Not long ago in Littleton, a wife stabbed her husband for eating left-over potato salad.

As a woman who left a physically, mentally, and financially abusive male partner years ago, I assure you there is no humor in this situation.

This wife did not (allegedly) attack her husband for any other reason than that she was, as the article says, "enraged," and the reasons and excuses for her rage are irrelevant. If the charges are true, she did not hit him because of his smoking, but because of how badly SHE dealt with her anger.

To make a big deal of the trifling excuses that any alleged abusers make for their crimes is to trivialize the act. To blame the victim, regardless of gender, is an old and tired ploy.

No one deserves to be abused, and abusers need to be charged with the crimes they commit. I believe in equal opportunity justice.
