— Cumberland County investigators have charged a Fayetteville man with setting fire to his home, authorities said Wednesday.

Jeremy Obrien Mercer, 30, of 427 Starlit Drive, stuffed both toilets in his home with trash, paper and other items before settling them on fire Tuesday evening, authorities said. He then barricaded himself inside the residence by putting furniture against the windows and doors, they said.

Firefighters and deputies were able to extinguish the fire, and Mercer, who was home alone, didn't appear to have any physical injuries, authorities said.

Maybe he was just trying to burn the stink out of the bath room. You know, the old light a match trick.

Should have let him burn, that's what it appears he wanted to do. No. I have no feelings for a person of this caliber.

Kudos to the firefighters. Shame they had to risk their lives and time on this less than smart individual.
