Authorities: Drunken Driver Injured Firefighter, Baby

Posted July 8, 2007

— A Holly Springs firefighter and his 2-month-old daughter suffered injuries after they were hit by a drunken driver Sunday, according to investigators.

Tammy Schedler, 42, allegedly ran a stop sign and hit a car driven by Nicholas Brown about 1:30 a.m. in Fuquay-Varina.

Brown, 26, and his young daughter were transported to Western Wake Med in Cary. Brown was listed in stable condition. His daughter suffered bumps and bruises, but was later released from the hospital, officials said.

Schedler was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her vehicle, officials said. She was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center and was later listed in good condition.

Schedler will be charged with DWI, reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt, officials said.

What part of "Don't drink and drive" do people have a hard time understanding???

Smack her hand and give her back her keys. After all, thats what our judicial system has become. I learned a lot watching Paris Hilton's jail time. I mean - where's the incentive to NOT do crimes...if the jailhouse if too full to house anyone. sheesh. I guarantee if my (no record) self went out and did something illegal - they would house me UNDER the jail. (I'm ashamed to say I learned something from Paris) Where's my prozac?

I will pray for the Brown famlily...

Enough is enough...how many innocent lives have to be lost to stop drunk driving. People need to think of others. If you have to drive where you drink you don't need to go or get a DD or have a nice cold soft drink. Take responsibility. DUI or DWI should be punishable by making them do community service with those who have lost family members to drunk driving or who have been permanently injured due to someone else drunk driving. Don't put them in prison...already overcrowded...make them work. Public embarassment. something.

Anybody want to wager this was not the first time Tammy Schedler has been caught driving drunk? Rediculous. As others have said, she should be charged with attempted murder.

Running with Scissors - I appreciate your satire. However, please understand where I am coming from. As I have posted previously, there are good and bad people from all nationalities -some legal, others not. Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every race. I try not to let them "spoil the bunch", as my mother would say. There was a lot of hostility over the past few weeks regarding the incidents in which Mexicans were involved. I know several Mexicans that work for my husband (all legal) and they are wonderfuly human beings. Unfortunately, they get the illegal immigrant stigma placed on them by others who don't even know them. I try not to judge anyone based on their outside appearance.
HOWEVER - let it be noted that I am TOTALLY FOR Immigration Reform. And I am also annoyed by the 'press 1 for English' message. I would love to see a massive Clean up of all illegal immigrants. =) Anyway, thanks for reading this far into my post.

Great, she was driving drunk and was ejected from the car but is in better condition than the guy she hit. Just not right.

FlSunshine: The push 1 for English is defintly annoying!!

Tax Man: No real disagreement, The State of NC should look at their "conflict of interest" if they are going to profit from the sales and reagulate them and then prosecute those who use it. (ABC Stores). the "BEER and Wine" industry lobby enough money to stay under the radar federally although the tobacco industry can't have the same right to advertize on television or basically any where else. Tobacco use is a personal choice just like alcohol, but tobacco harms are self inflicted where alcohol harms can be broadly inflicted.

My job takes me in close proximity to the courts on a daily basis. I see people who have lost their license to drive for various reasons including DUI in court all the time for DWLSR (Driving While License is Suspended or Revoked). If I drove a block I would get caught but these folks do it all the time and rarely get caught. And I agree Illegals need to be out of this Country for more than one reason. And....I am tired of phone systems telling me to push 1 for English...This is an English speaking Country!!!!!!!!

The current WRAL survey is on the new drunk driving laws - the problem is it should be a zero tolerance crime - you should not drive with ANY alcohol in your system! Get a designated driver (my wife does that for me) - take a cab - spend the night - but DO NOT drive if you have had anything to drink. If we strictly enforced drunk driving laws and made the punishment so severe any reasonable person would not drink and drive, then the few idiots who still drove could just spend their lives in prison - better than killing us all. Take responsibility and don't drink and drive.

"I'm glad there were no Mexicans involved. They've been getting a bad rap lately."

Silly Americans. Getting all fussy about people breaking into their country.
