Authorities ask for help in finding missing woman

Posted March 15, 2013

— Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help in finding a 31-year-old woman who has been missing since March 8.

Detectives said Friday that Michelle Lynne Powell recently suffered a stroke and is paralyzed on the left side of her body. As a result, she has an unusual gait.

Her family told detectives they are worried because Powell doesn't have her medications with her, and it is unusual for her not to contact them every day.

She is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 145 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Powell was last seen at a home on Bangle Street in Fayetteville. She was wearing a pink shirt, pink jogging pants, white tennis shoes and a black coat.

Anyone with information about Powell is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 910-323-1500.

A stroke at 31 doesn't sound to crazy at least not to me. A friend of mine had a stroke when we were 16 and another one of my friends died of a heart attack at the age of 24. Just hope she is found safe & they do need to let the public know if the stroke affected her mind.

She's been missing for a week and we're just now being told to look for her?

Why "would" there be a Silver Alert? It says nothing about her being cognitively impaired...the stroke impaired her physically but it doesn't say anything about mentally...

Why is this not a silver alert! They post several silver alerts for folks of all ages on here anymore and her story is one of the few that actually qualifies.

strokes can happen at any age and for many reasons......

Hope she's found safely and soon
