Aunt in custody of children after Raleigh boy found in recycling bin

According to a 911 call, the 9- or 10-year-old child was running from his mother and step-father on Friday night after he was beaten. The woman told dispatchers the child had a bloody face and that he had escaped.

Melissa White, who lives near the Greenwood Community Center, said she was taking the trash out when she discovered the child hiding inside the bin.

"I walked over to open the trash...I saw him in there and then I slammed it shut," White said.

White said she was then shocked by what the child told her when she asked why he was in the recycling bin.

"He said he couldn't take it no more," she said. "He said every day he was getting beat for making mistakes."

The child told White he had been hiding for several hours during the day and throughout the night before she found him. After hearing the child's story, she called the police.

"He was going to wait for the garbage people to come and take the garbage away," she said. "That's when he was going to run."

White said the boy told her that his family slept in a sand pit at a nearby park because they were homeless.

Hysun Lynch said he often saw the little boy with his mom and brother inside of the Green Road Community Library near the park.

Lynch said he did not realize the family was homeless until he ran into the child in the park restroom.

"He was putting toothpaste on a toothbrush and brushing his teeth," Lynch said. "I was like 'wow.'"

Jillian Randel Davis, 29, and Leroy Blake, 25, were both charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Both Davis and Blake remained at the Wake County Detention Center on Monday under $50,000 bonds.

According to police, the boy and his infant brother are currently living with a family member.
