Attorneys resolve matters in Atwater federal trial
Defense attorneys and prosecutors in the federal trial of a man accused in the killing of a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have worked out a number of defense requests and issues in the case.

Demario James Atwater's attorneys had filed several motions about prosecutors' evidence, including Crime Stoppers tips, criminal records, defendant statements, a taped interrogation and other information, regarding the shooting death of Eve Marie Carson.
A U.S. District Court judge was supposed to hear arguments in a motions hearing Tuesday, but both sides have reached agreement in the matter, according to a court document filed Friday.
Carson was the UNC student body president when she was shot five times and left on a residential street near campus in the early hours of March 5, 2008.
Atwater is one of two men charged with first-degree murder in the case. He also faces a number of federal charges, including kidnapping and carjacking, resulting in her shooting death.
A trial on the federal charges is scheduled to begin May 3. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death.
No trial date has been set for the state charges, which include first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, felonious larceny and felonious possession of stolen goods.
