Attempted sex assault reported in Fayetteville

A woman told police she was working at a business near the intersection of Owen Drive and Camden Road at about 10:40 a.m. when a man entered the business, grabbed her and tried to assault her. She told police she was able to fend off the attack, and the man fled on foot.

The assailant is described as a black man in his mid-20s, between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall, with a slim build. He was clean shaven and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Police said he should have a wound to his side from the struggle that might require medical attention.

Six women in Fayetteville and a seventh in Hope Mills reported being sexually assaulted since late June. In each case, the victim said a man broke her home – usually an apartment – late at night while she was alone, according to police reports. In an eighth case, a burglar tried to sexually assault a Fayetteville woman before fleeing.

Army investigators last month charged a Fort Bragg in a sexual assault on post in December, and Fayetteville police have said he is a person of interest in their investigations.
