Attempted robbery reported at Fayetteville Family Dollar store

Police are investigating a shooting and attempted armed robbery at a Family Dollar store in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police are investigating a shooting and attempted armed robbery at a Family Dollar store in Fayetteville.

Officers responded to the store, at 6511 Fisher Road, around 9:10 p.m., where employees said a man walked inside, pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded money.

At some point, investigators said, the man fired his gun and struck the clerk in the shoe. The man then fled on foot toward the area of Fisher Road.

The clerk, authorities said, was not injured.

Investigators have only a general description of the suspected gunman. He is in his mid-20s, stand 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a red bandana and blue jean jacket.
