As Neuse rises, crews help rescue Smithfield man stuck in high water

Posted April 26

— Emergency officials helped a man escape high waters Wednesday afternoon after he drove his car around barricades blocking a section of Hospital Road in Smithfield.

The man's car quickly washed into a water-filled ditch after he drove past the barriers at about 1:30 p.m.

The Smithfield Fire Department responded, and a rescuer waded out to the car, gave the man a life jacket and helped him to safety.

Officials said the man was trying to drive through high waters to visit a family member at the SECU Hospice House on Hospital Road.

Hospital Road and Buffalo Road remain blocked as water from the Neuse River remains high.

I'm surprised some energetic young lawyer hasn't come up with a way to sue upstream towns that allow massive development to allow the fast runoff of the watershed down the Crabtree creek and flood the malls, dealerships, and businesses.

To quote Forrest Gump "stupid is as stupid does". What an ignorant thing to do.
