Artsplash, the winning toy from abc’s ‘the toy box’ now on sale

Posted May 24

ABC’s toy competition show “The Toy Box” just recently wrapped, leaving one lucky inventor with national distribution of his toy and American kids with a sweet new toy to buy.

Inventor Ryan Stewart’s winning toy, Artsplash, beat out 34 other toy inventions presented to judges during the eight-week-long “Shark Tank”-like series.

The 3-D liquid art kit allows kids to create masterpieces and then wipe them away when they want to start another. The toy comes with safe-to-use color dyes that can be mixed to create any combination of colors kids desire. Kids simply dip the Aquapen into the dyed water and start painting. As the paint dries, it becomes 3-D (kind of a new version of puffy paint). When kids are finished, the board wipes down easily and is ready for another use.

Toys were subject to two levels of scrutiny on “The Toy Box.” Inventors first pitched to the show’s mentors, who included included Dylan’s Candy Bar owner, Dylan Lauren, toy guru Jim Silver, and Pixar Creative Director of Consumer Products, Jen Tan.

If the toymaker made it past the mentors, it was on to the judges: a group of semi-famous kids with eyes for good toys. The winning toy was then put into production by Mattel and is now sold exclusively at Toys”R”Us (online and in-store).

Stewart, the inventor behind the winning toy is the father of 3 young boys who has dreamt of being an inventor since he was a child himself. “To be able to see something I created on-shelf at Toys’R’Us is a childhood dream come true,” he said in a release.

Stewart shared this photo of his creation in action on his social media accounts this week:

Artsplash snagged first place, but there were a variety of other awesome contenders including a pinata backpack and Pool Cubes (underwater building blocks).

Here’s the best part: The toy is affordably priced ($25) and it’s perfect for kids of all ages. So if you have a special birthday boy/girl who needs a birthday present, look for this fun and creative toy at Toys”R”Us.
