SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Police said Friday that they are investigating a Wednesday fire at Spring Lake Town Hall as a possible arson case.

Firefighters who responded to a report of a strong odor at Town Hall at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday determined the odor was gasoline and found a small fire on the building's roof, police said. The fire was quickly extinguished, but town officials said it caused about $10,000 in damage.

Police said they want to speak with the driver of a dark-colored crew cab pickup truck seen in the area at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arson investigators and the State Bureau of Investigation are assisting Spring Lake police in the case.

Anyone with information about the fire or the pickup is asked to call the Spring Lake Police Department at 910-436-0350.
