Arrest made in theft of Durham officer's uniform, puppy
An 18-year-old was arrested Thursday evening and charged with breaking into a Durham police officer's home where his uniform, puppy and other items were taken.
Posted — UpdatedChristopher Reina, of Broad Street, is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, felony larceny of a dog, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen goods.
Reina is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Most of the officer's police equipment have been recovered. A few uniform shirts and the puppy remain missing. Reina told investigators the dog was given to an unknown family in the parking lot of Beauty World on the 1400 block of Avondale Drive, police said.
Someone broke into the Durham police officer's home Tuesday. Police have not named the officer nor said exactly where the break-in happened. The officer's firearm, badge and radio were not taken.
Investigators are asking for the puppy to be returned. The puppy takes prescribed medication and has been without his medication for three days, said authorities, who added that the family with the puppy is not in trouble nor will they face charges for having the puppy.
The investigation into the burglary is ongoing.
