— A 17-year-old Greenville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the kidnapping of a female student on East Carolina University's campus on Monday, police said.

Greenville police worked with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to nab Kaimeek Keiron Brown, of 1007 Colonial Avenue, shortly after noon.

On Monday, the student told police that a man got into her car in the on-campus parking lot at East 3rd and Reade streets, displayed a handgun and made her withdraw money from various ATMs before she managed to escape.

Brown was charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sex offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property. He was being held in the Pitt County jail under a $651,000 secured bond.

Police said Brown is currently on probation for property crimes.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Glad they caught this guy. Another bad guy off the street. Glad the student was not hurt.

"The case began Monday when police received a report just before 2 p.m. that a student was abducted at gunpoint from a university-owned parking lot at Third and Reade streets and forced to drive to several ATM locations. No money was withdrawn, police said. The incident concluded at the end of Country Club Drive, when the woman saw a chance to escape and bolted from the car to a nearby house seeking help. She is not believed to have known her attacker, police said. He ran from the scene."~~From the Daily Reflector in Greenville.~~

OK, so my first opinion was wrong and although I'm sorry for the ECU student, I'm glad I was wrong! After seeing/hearing so many made up stories it's oftentimes difficult to not make gut decisions.

Ok, Gingerlynn, thanks for explaining that. She's lucky he didn't kill her after not getting any money.

  • JAT Apr 27, 2011

Did they ever say how she "escaped"? If he was in the car, she would have had to leave the car with him. Still odd.

according to DOC, looks like they lost track of him while on probation and were trying to find him.

But wait, he's a good kid whose turning his life around and this is just a case of mistaken intentions.......NOT, he should thank his lucky stars that he didn't get lead poisoning and except that he should be locked up for a long long time. 17 and already on probation! parents should get a good smack upside the heads also.

    WITN has more details. again.
Police revealed more details about exactly what led to the arrest of a suspect wanted in the kidnapping of an ECU student on campus Monday.

After hours of interviewing the suspect, police arrested him exactly 24 hours after the incident.

Greenville police say 17-year-old Kaimeek Brown followed several ECU students through a parking lot before kidnapping a 22-year-old from Jacksonville who he forced into a car at gunpoint making her drive around Greenville to various ATMs.

"I know it was several. He did not get any money from any of the ATMs," said G.P.D. Chief William Anderson.

After traveling to all the banks and other locations, Brown and the victim ended up at a dead end on Country Club Drive.

"Once she saw an opportunity to escape she ran to the closest house," said Anderson.
