— An Army Major General died after collapsing during physical training on Friday, April 7.

General Fancisco Espaillat, 56, of New York City, was assigned to general officer support in the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve.

He had just been selected to serve as the next chief of staff for U.S. Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg. Espaillat had also just pinned on his second star less than two weeks ago.

Reserve Commanding General Charles Luckey said the officer was "a jewel who will never be forgotten."
