Armed man steals woman's purse, car outside Henderson school

Posted June 5, 2012

— Henderson police are searching for an armed man who stole a woman's purse and car outside Vance Charter School Tuesday morning.

Police say the man had a handgun and approached the 65-year-old woman in the parking lot, at 1227 Dabney Drive, shortly before 10 a.m. He demanded her purse and keys and stole her white 2010 Toyota Camry with North Carolina license plate ZTA-4269.

The man drove in the direction of Hardee's on Dabney Drive, police said. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a green T-shirt and black bandanna.

"He should be considered armed and dangerous," said police spokesman Lt. Christopher Ball.

Vance Charter School was temporarily locked down during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the man should call a local law enforcement agency.

    Light skinned, dark skinned?

    We live in such fear!

Just realized this was in a school parking lot so I would not have been carrying at that location. That's another thing about us gun folks. We know the law and abide by it. Unfortunately, the criminal had a gun and put this poor woman in a bad place. She's probably a law abiding gun carrier also and knew not to have it on school grounds.

If she was packing a gun he would have gotten that too.

Or he might have gotten a bullet! If she'd have had a gun, more than likely she would not have had it in her purse but somewhere she could have gotten to it quickly. You see, that's the thing about us gun toters. We are smart enough to have it at the ready. We've been properly trained and know how to handle a gun at that moment. With me, he would have gotten a lot more than he bargained for.

Kingfish you said it all. Going to jail today is a step up for a lot of these guys. All you have to do is sit around watch a little TV or work out if you like. We should have the folks in jail doing some kind of work if nothing but digging holes and filling them back in. Do not let them just sit around doing nothing. Have the lesser crooks out picking up trash and cutting grass beside the highway. Make jail a bad place not a country club.

You are so right on the money here. That is the biggest problem with the judicial system. Everyone is afraid someone will accuse them of whatever it is. We need to stick with facts and leave all race, religion, education, whatever out. Call it like it is. If I am white, black, indian, arabic, indian, mixed, anyrace at all say it. My God, it is part of the facts. America is at the lip of the quagmire ready to leap in.

Wouldn't need a description if he had layed dead outside the car. More people need to use our laws to thier benifit. Only problem in this case is, she would have had to brak the law to carry a gun on "campus" in order for her to protect herself. However, it would be hard to find a jury in a jury trial to convict her..............................

What an odd description of the thief. You can list his height and his clothing, but not his race? I don't think anyone would be offended by stating the race of a thief. Anyone with any sense at all knows that just because the thief is of a particular race does not mean everyone else of that race is a thief. Sometimes we are so P.C. it's ridiculous!!

""If she was packing a gun he would have gotten that too."

Or, perhaps just a part of the contents ....

That is hardly likely. While she was rooting around for her six shooter, the crook would be perforating her. Than he would have her purse, her car and her gun, leaving him better equipped to pursue his chosen profession.

Schools are "Gun free Zones." This makes no sense to me.
So are banks...but CRIMINALS don't necessarily follow the rules. The only people the gun rules apply to are hard working honest law abiding citizens. It's pretty apparent that a person that will steal a pocketbook and a car IS NOT one the honest law abiding citizens of this city. I live in Henderson and work in the same parking lot where this happened. This is not a safe place to be. Crime is aweful. Drugs are aweful. The legislature needs to figure it out that honest people are the one's voting for them, and make some laws that make it HARD on criminals. Take away ALL of their comforts and make prison somewhere that they DO NOT want to go, and it WILL make a difference. Air conditioning, television, and free food don't deter these animals from doing these crimes.
