HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — An armed man robbed a Wendy's restaurant at 325 N. Main St. in Holly Springs early Saturday morning.

No customers were inside the restaurant when a man wearing dark clothing and a ski mask displayed a gun and forced employees into a back room. He then went to the register, took an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled, police said.

“We don’t typically experience those types of crimes at that hour,” Police Chief John Herring said.

The Wendy's holdup occurred a week after two armed men robbed the Exxon station on Main Street about three blocks from Wendy’s.

The Exxon holdup happened Saturday night, Jan. 12, minutes before closing time. No customers were inside and no one was injured.

Police said they have not determined whether the same persons may have committed both crimes.

“It’s too early in the investigation to comment on whether these two armed robberies are connected, but it’s a possibility,” Herring said.

Until the Exxon holdup, the most recent armed robbery in Holly Springs happened in August 2006.

Anyone with information about either robbery was asked to call the Holly Springs Police Department at (919) 557-9111.
