Must Roy Change or Must He Go
Roy Williams, although a hall of fame coach, appears to continue to fall light years behind in the serious application of X/O basketball. Williams has recruited a plethora of individuals that are passive and lack aggression, many from California. Roy does not seem to realize, he is not in Kansas anymore.
Sure, he won a championship with Tyler, Ty, Danny, & Wayne, amongst others, however equally he lost the previous one with his poor decisions and inability to change. Williams hordes time outs, likely has a whole bag of them under his bed or stashed away in his office at the Smith Center.... Roy does not seem to recognize combinations, what works and who cannot possibly work... We all know that he recruited Alex Stephenson, the Wear fellows, Larry Drew (all from Cali) and in a pinch he selected Justin Watts... not exactly your standard bearer for UNC basketball. Further exacerbating this situation, when Roy's team is having success on the court, he is likely to have his back turned "teaching" during the course of the game and when he turns his attention to the court... mass substitutions. This has been ongoing and continual and he thereafter removes a productive unit from the floor, AFTER they atone for the first teams blunders. Particularly, Dexter & Larry should, by way of earning, be remanded to the non starter rolls. Each lack the ability to pass or score (unless it is a fast break) and they do not seem to understand how to get the ball to players where they are most capable of scoring. It appears that Leslie & Kendall have earned a start and a different combination, perhaps Barnes, Marshall , Bullock along with Zeller & Henson, could be well served for the benefit, or Barnes, MARSHALL, MCDONALD, Zeller & Henson.... How late will Roy wait, until LATE NIGHT with ROY?
Zeller & Henson are often at the 3 point line, and this is not effective.. Henson should be position 10-12 feet, and since he is not very good in the free throw catagory.. certain times he either should not be on the floor or not handle the ball as much.
Notwithstanding these "anyone can see" moments, Roy has steadfastly refused to budge but when we lose he'll state "I have to coach better"... Please note, if you KEEP dropping the french fries at McDonald's, you eventually get fired....
Consider this, IF a coach is recruiting the same kids as Roy, he CANNOT match the HISTORY of UNC BAsketball, BUT he CAN make a CD of ROY, looking confused, befuddled, exasperated, failing to understand the ongoing and thus undermine recruiting.. Also show how he has failed to develop guards and how even projected good players seem to stagnate under his leadership and his stubbornness and there is your blueprint to defeating UNC at recruiting.. point the finger at ROY Williams...
Wake up Roy, you are not in Kansas anymore!!!!!!!!
