Approaching front to make for 'miserable' Wednesday
Clouds and rain showers will dominate the weather in central North Carolina Wednesday as a cold front closes in on the region, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
Posted — UpdatedA band of showers moved through overnight, dropping steady rain on much of the area prior to daybreak, and areas near the Virginia border were still seeing light to steady rain at 9:30 a.m.
"We'll have a little lull between the morning commute and lunchtime," Gardner said.
Following that lull, scattered showers will linger in the area throughout the afternoon and into the evening commute.
Temperatures won't climb much during the daytime thanks to the clouds and showers, topping out in the low 50s after starting in the mid-40s.
Clearing skies overnight will allow warmer air to filter back into the Triangle to close out the work week, with highs reaching the upper 50s and low 60s Thursday and Friday.
"We'll have this nice little warming trend late this week," Gardner said. "Thursday and Friday will be beautiful."
Another shot of cold air arrives late Friday, setting up a cool weekend with highs near 50 degrees. Overnight lows Sunday and Monday will dip into the upper 20s.
