Appointed Cary Councilman to Run for Election

Erv Portman, who was appointed to the Cary Town Council in February, said that he plan to run for election in October.

CARY, N.C. — The man appointed to the Cary Town Council in February plans to run for election in the fall.

Erv Portman told WRAL that he plan to officially file for the election on Monday.

Portman was appointed to the town council in February to fill the at-large seat vacated by Councilman Michael Joyce in July 2006.

Portman, 51, is the president of Weststar, a contract manufacturing company specializing in precision devices. He is registered as a Democrat.

Cary Mayor Ernie McAlister and Councilman Nels Roseland have already announced that they are running for reelection.

Elections for Cary, Raleigh and the Wake County Board of Education are set for October 9.
