Some N.C. colleges waive application fees

North Carolina College Application Week runs from today through Friday, offering graduating high school seniors a chance to apply to college online through CFNC.org.

Some North Carolina colleges and universities will be waiving their application fee for all North Carolina graduating seniors this week. The average fee is $41 and can add up if your child is applying to multiple colleges as most do.

The program focuses its efforts on students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who might not otherwise have considered going. But, it's open to others as well.

Last year during annual event, 72,318 applications were submitted by 27,564 North Carolina students to colleges and universities here, according to the College Foundation of North Carolina.

The week began in 2005 at one high school and has now expanded to hundreds of schools and other locations across North Carolina. Guidance counselors at schools work to ensure that kids and parents know about the event and have already thought about what school will work best for each student.
