Even these traditional men's undergarments have evolved in strange ways. The pouch seems to be an important, if disturbing, feature of 21st-century men's underwear (women may disagree). And by my estimate, half the selections no longer open at the front. Does today's man no longer need a front opening? Or are we expected to do it like women? Even worse, though, are buttons on briefs. Buttons! What kind of abomination is that? Although I have to admit, I never used the "Y front" opening when I wore tightie whities. I just hooked my left thumb over the top of my tighties, with zipper open, and pulled them down. Didn't have to worry about stuffing it back in thru the self closing Y front (kind of like a soft guillotine). I had to wear tightie whities for support when I ran alot when I was in the Army, but I then switched to boxers. Now I wear a kind of hybrid, not too loose but not too tight.
