<b>APEX, N.C.</b> — Apex officials are seeking candidates to replace former mayor Keith Weatherly, who resigned last week to take a position at the North Carolina Department of Transportation, ending a town political career that spanned two decades.

“This was a very hard decision for me, but it was an offer I could not pass up,” said Weatherly, NCDOT’s new deputy secretary for legislative affairs and policy.

Mayor Pro Tempore Gene Schulze is serving as interim mayor.

Interested citizens can submit an application for the Town Council’s review. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, live within Apex town limits and be registered voters.

The deadline to submit an application is Feb. 10 at noon. For more information, visit Apex’s website at www.apexnc.org/vacancy.
