Apex, N.C. — Apex police officers, town council members and residents shivered in solidarity on Saturday after jumping into a pool of icy water to raise nearly $6,000 for the North Carolina Special Olympics.
Some officers, including the police chief and SWAT team members, jumped into the pool in full uniform, but the extra layers didn’t keep them any warmer.
“That’s the coldest I’ve ever been in my life, but it was so wonderful,” one participant said.
Officers said the recent cold snap made Saturday’s event even better.
“It kinda makes this event for us,” Apex police Sgt. Joey Best said. “I love seeing snow on the ground and having a polar plunge. It's amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better event today.”
