Apex Prom Shoppe
The Apex Prom Shoppe opens Friday for a two-day event that features hundreds of dresses and accessories for high school girls headed to prom.

The event is designed for teen girls who might not otherwise be able to afford prom-related items. At the Prom Shoppe, they'll be able to pick up dresses, shoes, jewelry, makeup and other items for free. There will be more than 1,000 dresses to choose from.

The event is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes St., Apex.

Here are some details about the event from its Facebook page:
  • Everything is first come, first serve. People will receive cards when they arrive and go in in groups based on their arrival time. Fire code requires the event's organizers to limit the number of people in the gym.
  • There are private dressing rooms.
  • Because dressing rooms are set up inside the event area, dads, grandpas, uncles, boyfriends and brothers (unless they are under 10) will need to wait in the area designated for them.

Organizers also are still collecting items, including dresses, shoes, jewelry and unused makeup and perfume. Donations can be dropped off at the church office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and at the event on Friday.
