APEX, N.C. — Authorities are investigating an incident this week in which a man in a fast-food restaurant bathroom tried to lure a child back to his home.

Police said the incident happened Monday around 6:30 p.m. in the men’s restroom of the Chick-Fil-A at 1110 Beaver Creek Commons Drive.

An unknown man asked the child if he wanted to come home with him and offered to give the child candy, police said he told them. The child refused and left the bathroom. The man was then seen leaving the restaurant quickly in a brown Jeep Wrangler with a soft top. The registration and year of the vehicle were not known.

The child’s mother described the man to police. He was white, 35-40 years old, about 5-foot-10 with blond hair cut in a military-style. He also had tattoos on both arms.

Apex Police Department said no similar incidents had been reported.

Authorities are asking citizens to contact the Apex Police at 919-362-8661 or to call 911 if they see a vehicle and person matching the descriptions. Citizens are urged not to approach this individual.

Police also said the incident serves as a reminder to parents to keep a watchful eye on their children at all times and to teach proper safety precautions.
