APEX, N.C. — Apex police investigating sightings of a possible sex offenders determined that the individuals seen taking pictures are real-estate appraisers employed by Wake County.

For several weeks, Apex police were "inundated with calls" about a possible registered sex offenders taking pictures of children, according to a department press release. The individuals all claimed to be real estate appraisers.

The Wake County Revenue Department verified that it has sent out appraisers to take pictures of homes in the Apex area for tax purposes. The appraisers drive vehicles similar to the ones reported by concerned citizens, officers said.

Police urged parents to always know the whereabouts of their children and to monitor their behavior to protect them from potential dangers.
