APEX, N.C. — Assistant Town Manager Michael Wilson retired Tuesday, three days after he was arrested on a charge of driving while impaired, Apex Town Manager Bruce Radford said.

Wilson, 59, of 801 Olive St., was arrested late Saturday about a block from his home, according to an arrest report. He has a March 11 court date.

After working for the town for 35 years, he submitted his retirement paperwork Tuesday afternoon, Radford said, noting that the retirement was effective immediately.

“During his career, Mike has been instrumental in guiding and directing the positive growth and prosperity of Apex,” Radford said in a statement. “His commitment to the Town is unparalleled, and Apex is a better place today because of his many contributions. He has been the epitome of a dedicated public servant.”
