Apex man, ECU grad reported missing
Weston Vandemerwe, 23, was last seen Friday night in downtown Raleigh.
Posted — UpdatedWeston Vandemerwe, 23, left The Oxford on Fayetteville Street at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, friends said. He and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Holmes, argued outside the bar, and she got in a cab. Holmes said she assumed Vandermerwe would also take a cab home. He had left his car at a friend's house in Cary.
Vandemerwe's mother, Becky Daly, said it was not unusual for her son to stay out all night.
Friends started to worry on Sunday and contacted his parents. Daly and Holmes planned a news conference Monday afternoon to publicize his case further.
Family members said Vandemerwe missed an appointment to sign a new lease Sunday and did not show up for work Monday.
He is described as a white man with brown hair and eyes. He is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was wearing a red polo shirt and blue shorts.
"This is not my son," Daly said, "I really feel that something bad has happened."
Anyone with information about Vandermerwe is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-834-4357. Friends are offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps them find Vandemerwe.
