— Police in Raleigh, Cary and Apex joined the search Monday for an Apex man last seen in Raleigh Friday night.

Weston Vandemerwe, 23, left The Oxford on Fayetteville Street at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, friends said. He and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Holmes, argued outside the bar, and she got in a cab. Holmes said she assumed Vandermerwe would also take a cab home. He had left his car at a friend's house in Cary.

Vandemerwe's mother, Becky Daly, said it was not unusual for her son to stay out all night.

Friends started to worry on Sunday and contacted his parents. Daly and Holmes planned a news conference Monday afternoon to publicize his case further.

Family members said Vandemerwe missed an appointment to sign a new lease Sunday and did not show up for work Monday.

He is described as a white man with brown hair and eyes. He is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was wearing a red polo shirt and blue shorts.

"This is not my son," Daly said, "I really feel that something bad has happened."

Anyone with information about Vandermerwe is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at  919-834-4357. Friends are offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps them find Vandemerwe.

"Weston Vandemerwe, 23, left The Oxford on Fayetteville Street at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, friends said"

Note to self, don't hang out in South Raleigh at 1:30 AM

Thanks for the clarification. I was reading quickly. I know a few people who are friends with Weston, so I'm looking for any type of information.

"Some friends. They said they saw him "inebriated" and on the side of Lenoir St, but that he didn't want help, so they left him there."

No, the friends were doing a search and came upon some people (not friends) who say they had seen him @Lenoir. The story doesn't say that his friends left him.

    Hope he is found safe...

@kikinc, the people mentioned in the N&O article were NOT his friends, they were just people walking in the area who DID stop and ask if he needed help.

Just read the N&O article. Some friends. They said they saw him "inebriated" and on the side of Lenoir St, but that he didn't want help, so they left him there. One friend also said he has a habit of getting drunk and wandering off. They never should have left him there.

Maybe if he wandered off, he really was trying to walk home to Apex. Whatever did happen, I really hope there can be a happy ending to this. I know it seems unlikely, but these things can happen.

Has anyone checked to see if he was arrested and in Wake County Jail for public intoxication or other charges. Or have the local hospitals been checked? He may have been hit on the head during a robbery and not know who he is??? Anything is possible. That area has high traffic with all the local bars & restaurants but also a block away is the bus station and dark areas that unfriendly people hide out and wait for easy victims. Hope he is found safe and soon

Eerie similarity to Kyle Fleishmann in Charlotte 5 1/2 years ago. Good looking kid, recent grad, downtown drinking, POOF. I hope this is just the folly of youth and he's safe and sound. His poor parents have to be out of their minds.
