APEX, N.C. — Gas leaking from a 4-inch gas line in Apex Monday morning forced authorities to evacuate a nearby day care center.

The leak was reported at about 10:45 a.m. at 2051 Shepherd's Vineyard Drive. PSNC Energy was able to shut gas off shortly afternoon, but there was no word on when the gas line would be repaired.

About 90 children at a nearby Bright Horizons day care center were moved to the Eva Perry Regional Library as a precaution, police said. Any parents picking up their children were told to go to the library.

All other businesses on Shepherd's Vineyard Way were closed, and the employees were told to stay inside, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Shepherd’s Vineyard Way was closed to traffic between U.S. Highway 64 and Old Raleigh Road until about 12:30 p.m.

PSNC and Apex police were trying to determine the cause of the leak Monday afternoon.
