Apex fire marshal involved in wreck

print friendly

An Apex fire marshal was involved in a three-vehicle wreck on N.C. Highway 55 Friday morning, officials said.

At 11:18 a.m., Deputy Fire Marshal David Dillon drifted into the oncoming westbound lane of N.C. 55, hitting one vehicle and causing it to hit another vehicle, officials said. The reason he crossed the center line wasn't immediately clear.

Dillon was taken to WakeMed, and his condition is unknown. None of the people in the other two vehicles was injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

djofraleigh I am still a young man and I just had my 74th birthday. Never had a speeding or parking ticket, never had an accident. Never even been thru a traffic license check. So please dont imply that all drivers have accidents or get tickets. I dont have a cell phone so you wont see me texting while I drive.

There is little info here about the accident's location. And thought there would be an update on the marshal's condition by now.

All drivers will have accidents, and this was one. If he was texting then the record will show that.

Not to do with this case, but I've started blowing my horn as I pass or am passed by those texting. We were passed and followed a man texting for five miles on the beltline and partway down US264. He never raised his head but never left his lane...impressive. I blew my horn as he went by to no effect.

On I-77 I guess it was going into WVa I was passed and followed a young salesman looking guy who was all over the highway. We thought he would get wise, but never did. He hit the rumble strips and crossed the line. I wonder how he didn't think it was a problem. We took his tag # just in case we read about him.

I have a Go-Pro on my dash, and I've thought about sending the video to the insurer of the license plate?? What do you think?

Something has to be done about DrivingWhileTexting. I've tried it and I can't safely do it, but I do eat, drink, handsfree, cell and talk while driving

is this really news

I see it all to often on 55, people driftin. Apex is no exception for bad drivers.
