— A 23-year-old man died after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree and caught fire south of Angier shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, state troopers said.

Troopers said that Richard Ray Winders crossed the center line to pass a vehicle in the 1400 block Chalybeate Springs Road. When Winders came back into the eastbound lane, his vehicle ran off the road and struck a guard rail and a tree. His vehicle caught on fire.

Troopers said that alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

Rick was one of those people who made everyone smile no matter what the circumstance. He affected many people that knew him in one way or another. The country song is correct, The good die young. He may be gone, but he will always be watching down upon us, as we will always have him in our hearts. People die, friendships last for eternity. RIP Rick Winders. You'll be missed by all.
