Amtrak train hits, kills person in Mebane

Mebane, N.C. — An Amtrak train bound for Raleigh hit and killed a person on the tracks in Mebane on Sunday, an official for the train service confirmed.
The incident happened at 9:20 a.m. where the tracks cross Buckhorn Road. The train was headed from Charlotte to New York and was due to stop in Raleigh at 10:25 a.m.
A total of 118 passengers were aboard the Carolinian, the officials said. There were no other injuries reported.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. They did not release additional information.
According to Amtrak's website, the train arrived in Raleigh about three and a half hours late.
