Amtrak train hits, kills man on NCSU campus

An eastbound Amtrak train on Tuesday afternoon hit a person on the rail line that cuts through the North Carolina State University campus, Raleigh police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — An eastbound Amtrak train on Tuesday afternoon hit and killed a man on the rail line that cuts through the North Carolina State University campus, Raleigh police said.

Police said the accident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. behind 621 Motor Pool St., which is just east of Gorman Street. Fencing lines the tracks across campus, but there is a hole in the fence near where the body was found.

The 51-year-old man was identified as Maurice Sutton of Raleigh. Police said he wasn't affiliated with N.C. State.
