— An eastbound Amtrak train on Tuesday afternoon hit and killed a man on the rail line that cuts through the North Carolina State University campus, Raleigh police said.

Police said the accident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. behind 621 Motor Pool St., which is just east of Gorman Street. Fencing lines the tracks across campus, but there is a hole in the fence near where the body was found.

The 51-year-old man was identified as Maurice Sutton of Raleigh. Police said he wasn't affiliated with N.C. State.

No other information was available.

Very good point. Regardless of why Mr Sutton was on the tracks, this is a sad situation.

And with your crass comments, you also forget about the conductor who has to live with this.

The train ALWAYS wins. Which is why I never understand why authorities delay the train for hours after incidents like this.

That's pretty much on part for Internet comments. Compassion is often in short suppky.

I completely agree Schnika Pender. None of us know who this man was or the circumstances that led to his death. One thing we all need to consider is that he probably has family and loved ones who are grieving. Some of these comments are mean and insensitive and something I would expect from a 5th grader not from adults!

And evidently none for the loved ones who may be grieving.

No compassion for criminals...or those not smart enough to watch out for trains.

    Geez where's the compassion?

Train vs pedestrian. Want to make a bet as to the outcome? Must have been one of those "stealth" trains that don't have horns or make any noise when moving. (sarcasm).
