DURHAM, N.C. — Dance companies and choreographers from across the globe will take the stage this summer for the 80th season of the American Dance Festival, which opens Thursday in Durham.
Shen Wei Dance Arts will kick off the festival with performances Thursday and Friday. Shen Wei, a Chinese-born choreographer based in New York City, creates "timeless dance works that evoke a sense of drama and mystery and immerse audiences in the visually rich world emerging onstage," according to the festival's website.
Performances last through July 27 at a number of venues, including the Durham Performing Arts Center, the Reynolds Industries Theater at Duke University, Nasher Museum of Art and Motorco Music Hall.

In addition to the performances in North Carolina, there will also a collaboration between the ADF and Lincoln Center Out of Doors co-commission of a new site specific performance by Mark Dendy. The work will premiere in New York City during ADF’s season and will feature 80 dancers in honor of the festival’s anniversary.

Tickets range from $15 to $54 and can be purchased on the ADF website.
