BURLINGTON, N.C. — Rowan County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Burlington man Saturday hours after he assaulted his girlfriend in the parking lot of a Burlington Walmart and took her three children.

According to Burlington police, Detarrio Antwann Yarbor, of Cleveland Avenue, assaulted the 24-year-old woman about 12 a.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart on Garden Road. Before police arrived, Yarbor left the scene with three children, a 5-year-old, 4-year-old and 4-month-old.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued an Amber Alert for the children shortly after.

About 5 a.m., authorities in Rowan County stopped Yarbor on Interstate 85. He informed deputies that he had dropped the children off at a home on Queen Ann Street in Burlington.

The children were found safe at a family member's house and were in good health, and authorities canceled the Amber Alert.

Yarbor faces three counts of child abduction, one count of assault on a female and one count of assault on a child under 12. He was in the Rowan County jail Saturday morning under a $50,000 secured bond.

Burlington police are still investigating the incident and said more charges are possible. Anyone with information about the case should call the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or Alamance County Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.
