Amazon to build 2nd Colorado fulfillment center in Thornton, creating more than 1,500 full-time jobs

Posted June 13

— Amazon is expanding its presence in Colorado with another huge fulfillment center.

The company announced Monday that it plans to build a new facility at the northeast corner of I-25 and 144th Avenue in Thornton that will employ more than 1,500 full-time workers.

The building's footprint will be 855,000 square feet, but with three stories, the building will have a total of 2.4 million square feet inside.

When it's completed next year, the building will be Amazon's second fulfillment center in Colorado. The first, currently under construction in Aurora, is nearing completion.

While that facility will handle just about anything a customer orders on Amazon, the Thornton facility will focus on smaller purchases, like books, electronics and toys.

The Thornton fulfillment center will use Amazon Robotics technology to help speed up the order fulfillment process. This will be the company's first Amazon Robotics facility in Colorado.
