Raleigh, N.C. — Scorpions, elephant poo and making fire - sounds like an episode of "Survivor," but no this was "The Amazing Race."
This week's episode started with Max and Katie vowing not to let anyone know that Katie was smart and, in fact, the holder of a doctorate. No worries there!
The first challenge was digging up a scorpion in the Kalahari Desert. Native Bushmen showed them how to do it and assisted, but it was still pretty scary. After digging them up, Bushmen put the scorpions in their mouths before putting them into the team's jars. Ewww.
Team YouTube lost it with Mr. YouTube practically jumping out of his skin during the challenge. Poor Team Mullet had to send Wynona out there, but she handled it.
Hockey brother Bates sailed through it. I have to note the potential "romance" they have brewing with the country singers, who kept casually mentioning their crushes on the brothers. Both sides seem to have a mutual attraction.
Up next, another adventure in the desert! A detour decision - set a fire or learn to make a fowl trap. Bates and Anthony chose fire, which also included the added fun of using elephant poo!
Hockey brothers, once again, made it look easy and finished first this leg. They won a trip to Thailand.
Fire and fowl had all of the other teams struggling.
Max and Katie finished last but managed to stay alive thanks to a non-elimination leg!
