Alligators Spotted in Long Island

On Friday, April 19, 2013, Frank Nasse stopped to enjoy the view of the Peconic River on his way to work. according to Newsday, Frank Nasse does this every day. I can only imagine the sense of peace he gets by having a cup of coffee outdoors in nature on his way to the office. It's a healthy daily habit, no?

But on April 19th, Frank saw something weird: four alligators wading in the Peconic. He called "environmental officials", who captured the alligators and taped their mouths shut, before removing the gators to the Long Island Aquarium. Just like how Miami's pest control experts now have to contend with African Rock Pythons, Long Island's pest guys might now be fielding calls about alligators, which apparently can survive in the frigid waters of eastern New York.

Strange animals are no strangers to the NYC-area's waterways. Back in January, a dolphin was stranded in the Gowanus Canal. In March 2012, a four foot California king snake slithered out a toilet in Staten Island.
