jdouglas13 - not sure I could stomach the "special bologna" you mom served!

  • watchhillgirl Aug 21, 2014

LOL. I never knew that is what those tubes of ground beef were called! That is way too funny!!

Chubs (not the ground beef package) were one of my Mom's "special foods" for lunch when I was a kid passed off as "special tuna". It was some kind of whole smoked fish that looked like it had been gold leafed that my Mom got at the Kosher deli. She buy a couple of them and some tongue which was passed off as "special bologna".

    Thanks Faye !
I had never heard the term "chub" until 5 or 10 years ago .
The first actual rolls of beef I ever saw were at Winn Dixie when I was in college:
before that all ground beef was in packages where you could see the meat .

watchhillgirl - and I usually only see the term used for ground beef.

watchhillgirl - Hee Hee - that made me giggle because I had no idea what a chub was when I first saw it written in an ad years ago. It's basically a roll of meat in a wrapped in plastic in the shape of a tube. Here is a photo - scroll down and look for the rolls:
